Summary/Abstract: This paper opens up possibilities of comparative reading of the works of two greatest authors on the South Slavic literary scene. With this respect, of pronounced challenge should be the reading of those codes that become obvious through potential interference of Selimović’s and Njegoš’s texts, their specific articulation and certain symbolic overflows, and whose complete meaning is reached in numerous analogies and textual correspondences. One of the aims of this research is possible establishment of a fuller approach to the phenomena of literary heritage, especially with the regard to the particular traditional context. Therefore a transparent need of an adapted approach to the literary material that would be focused not only on what a particular work of art meant in the time of its origin, but that should adopt a position of actual moment of reception and should be turned towards uncovering of its universal/timeless values.
