Summary/Abstract: In this text, we will try to show that Diogene's relinquishment of ownership is an important aspect of his philosophy, or attempt to revaluate value. The typical characteristic of Diogene's way of life, and of later cinis too, is their homelessness. Altough a sudden turn of destiny can turn him into slave, Diogen believes that the cinics sage will not lose what is the most valuable, and that is freedom. Unlike the usual standpoint, for him, freedom is not something he gets in relationships with other people, but freedom is transferred to the area of our soul. For later cinis and for Diogen, to live in the accordance with ratio and virtue is only possible if one becomes independent of things. Philosophy prepares us for every impact of destiny, and poverty makes us safer. Satisfaction from such natural desires is acceptable for Diogen. He does not require that all wishes must be suppressed but only those imposed by convention (nomos).
