Summary/Abstract: In the nineteenth century (approximately in 1840–1843) a unique register of proper names was compiled that had no analogues in Lithuanian historical anthroponomy and toponymy. The manuscript of the register was received from Jonas Jablonskis by the Lithuanian Science Society in 1913, and presently is preserved in the library of the Institute for the Lithuanian Literature and Folklore in Vilnius (LLTIB ). The author of the register has not been identified yet. The manuscript was written in Polish and Latin, several inserts printed later in Russian were added later. It comprises app. 45,000–60,000 historical proper names (mostly personal names); the number includes also recurring onymes. This abundance of onymes was collected from various primary sources. For instance, a certain part of Lithuanian proper names was copied from the register confessions in Taujėnai church. Also, citations form historical chronicles, church documents, maps, nineteenth century publications, etc. The non-compound type of the naming of Lithuanian men is clearly prevalent in the register. Patronyms and non-patronymic personal names were used as the naming model.
