Summary/Abstract: Municipal register books constitute one of the key sources of the historical anthroponymy of Lithuanian town-dwellers. Twenty-four register books of Kėdainiai Magistrate dating to the 17th–19th century stand out among them. Around 250 cases of naming Scottish people were selected from the books of the 17th–18th century as well as other old manuscripts of the town (they do not only include different persons but also different variants of their surnames). Through their analysis the article discusses the tendencies of naming Scottish settlers in Kėdainiai in the 17th–18th century, the exceptional situation behind the formation of their surnames (when arriving in Kėdainiai in around 1628–1629, Scottish people already had surnames) and the tendencies of recording these hereditary personal names in the town’s historical documents.
