New Blendings in the Lithuanian Language

Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the current abundant occurrence of blendings in Lithuanian language, the reasons and sources of occurrence as well as peculiarities of composition and functioning. The research is based on the latest facts from electronic Database of Lithuanian Neologisms prepared by the Institute of the Lithuanian Language. The research of this kind has never been conducted in Lithuanian linguistics due to scarcity of data and the attitude that the blendings are marginal phenomena not worth greater attention to be paid. The context of English blendings derivation research and problems caused is briefly presented. The list of 80 blending formations recorded in contemporary Lithuanian language is presented in the annex to the article.
