Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the current political situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. First, the author presents historical background and information on politics, economy and demographics in this country. Next, the main attention is given to the ongoing constitutional crisis: despite being required to step down after his second term, President Joseph Kabila invokes a dubious reading of the constitution and still remains in office.
