Summary/Abstract: The article looks at the Boko Haram, a jihadist group based in northeastern Nigeria. First, the author discusses the ideology behind the group and its origins. Next, its structure, leaders, members and ways of financing are presented. Special attention is given to the Boko Haram insurgency and the recent escalation of violence, as well as the response by Nigerian authorities and the international diplomatic and military actions.
