Summary/Abstract: The objective of the research is to establish the similarities and differences of metalanguage of Lithuanian and Latvian terminology using analytic descriptive and comparative methods. The comparison of terms created with the root termin- taken from the main publications of Lithuanian and Latvian lexicography and terminography as well as various works on terminology science allows to conclude that the root termin- is derivationally productive and easily usable for the creation of terms both in Lithuanian and Latvian. When comparing Lithuanian and Latvian terms few aspects, first of all terminological meanings and equivalent names of concepts were taken into consideration. A part of Lithuanian and Latvian terms are similar, some of them only look similar from the first sight (for instance, terminologija and terminoloģija). It is difficult to establish the authorship of particular terms, though sometimes it’s possible.
