Summary/Abstract: International Court of Justice is a key judicial body of the United Nations which performs its tasks in accordance with the Statute as a part of the UN Charter and the Rules of Procedure. Since 1946, after it has replaced the Permanent Court of International Justice under the auspices of the League of Nations, International Court of Justice has been acting as an independent judicial body with the competence of resolving disputes between states and providing advisory opinions on legal issues. The establishment of the International Court of Justice represents the peak of a long development of peaceful solving of disputes and its work very much contributed to a nowadays widely accepted and established practice of judicial dispute solving as a means of peaceful solving of conflicts.
