Summary/Abstract: In this article, I aim at arguing in favor of introducing the philosophy of economics as one of the courses taught during the economic studies. The line of argument is following. First, I analyze the recently widely discussed Reinhart-Rogoff controversy and show that the controversy is misunderstood in the hitherto literature because economists hold the philosophical presuppositions of scientific realism as true. In contrary to the hitherto explanations, the controversy exemplifies “emerging contrary result” phenomenon originally described by Goldfarb [1997]. However, the affair was understood as resulting from unjustified methodological commitments of Growth in a Time of Debt authors because this explanation is in line with the philosophical presuppositions of scientific realism. This case study shows that the philosophy of economics is a part of knowledge essential for conducting fruitful economic research and (therefore) it should be included in the teachingprogramme on Polish economic universities. In the second part of the article, I sketch three important aspects of the philosophy of economics didactics: (1) teaching methods, (2) aspects of the philosophy of economics which should be taught during a 30-hour course and (3) results of such a course.
