Summary/Abstract: The article is aimed at presenting the results of the data-mining analysis focused on discovering the differences between economic tigers (i.e. economies that grow, on average, faster than 7 per cent per year) and economic elephants. I conclude the literature review by stating that the hitherto researches are based on databases which consist of variables that are impossible to be manipulated by economic policy-makers. In order to fill the gap in the literature, I estimate a model using only those variables that are manipulable. Moreover, instead of the usual econometric methodology, I applied the method coined on the ground of the data-mining, i.e. I estimated a decision tree with the C4.5 algorithm. According to the estimated model, economic development is determined by: number of self-employed, population growth, savings and the ease of doing business.
