The Impact of Chronic Diseases on the Polish Labour Market Potential in the Context of the Aging of the Labour Forces in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to evaluate impact of “epidemic” of chronic diseases on the Polish labour market potential. The article presents the impact of the disease on the value of lost productivity of human capital in the context of the observed demographic processes. The analysis shows the differentiation of parameters characterizing the number of lost potentialyears of healthy life (DALYs) due to chronic diseases according to age and gender. Usingstatistical data of the World Health Organization indicated the intensity of the examinedphenomenon in Poland compared to the average values observed among the countries of theEuropean Union and the group of countries with high levels of income.
