Summary/Abstract: This article addresses to oeuvre of Petras Repšys, one of the most universal Lithuanian painters. It analyzes the mythological sources of his creative work; influence made on him by the artisanship traditions of his family, by Kaunas national art school and institute, as well as by the nonconformist artists whom he befriended after the graduation. It focuses on various aspects of the artist’s intellectual and technical evolution in the different spheres of artistic creativity. In the article, much attention is paid to his neoclassical panel Pictures with Castel in the Background and fresco The Seasons. Their relatedness to the metaphysical traditions of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque of painting are shown and the main mythological and poetical characteristics of style are discussed.
