Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the painting of Viktoras Vizgirda a representative of the first generation of Kaunas Art School. It focuses on the turns of his intellectual and artistic development, on the influence of Paris internship on his expressive painting style, on his attitude towards the nature of Lithuania, teachers, coevals and contemporary art masters. It considers his favorite painting genres. It spotlights the stylistic traits of the three main stages of his artistic evolution and solution of problems of composition, color and coloring. In the article, special attention is paid to Vizgirda’s artistic evolution during his emigration, to new creative tendencies towards plastic abstraction. The artist is treated here as a master of subtle coloring whose mastery is seen in the expressiveness of brushstroke, play of fanciful lines and emotional scale of colors.
