Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to present a curious seal of the Bulgarian empress Irene. This is the only one knowing seal of Bulgarian empress. The seal dates from the period of the Second Bulgarian Empire. There are four possibillities to identify the owner of the seal, as follows: Irene, the dauther of the emperor Theodorus Comnenos of Thessaloniki; Irene, the dauther of emperor Theodorus II of Nicaea; Irene, the dauther of the Byzantine emperor Michael VIII Palaeologus, and Irene, the dauther of the Byzantine emperor Andronicus III Palaeologus. According to the opinion of the author the most probably owner of this seal is Irene Palaeologina Assenina, the dauther of the emperor Michael VIII and wife of the Bulgarian tsar Constantin Assen.
