Summary/Abstract: It is possible to say that education for the development of individuals and societies is of great importance. While education and teaching activities are developing individuals and societies, they are also influenced by the development of the period. Today, with the rapid development of technology, it has become inevitable for it to affect all areas of our life. This situation has also shown itself in the field of education. This study focuses on the use of geographic information systems technology, which is one of the technological developments of today, in education and its effect on the academic success of students. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of using GIS in the teaching of the topic of our Mines in the 6th grade Our Country’s Resources unit to the academic success of the students. For this purpose, the study was carried out in the 6th grade of a central secondary school determined by a random method of Afyonkarahisar Provincial Directorate of National Education. A total of 66 students participated in the research. The experimental group consists of 32 individuals. The control group consists of 34 individuals. In the research process, the subject was explained with the help of GIS to the experimantel group. On the other hand, the lessons in the control group were made by using the straight expression method. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students in the experiment group with GIS showed a significant difference compared to the control group. According to the findings, it was concluded that the students in the experimental group were more successful.
