Summary/Abstract: This study seeks to identify innovation barriers in medium-high and high technologyindustry sectors in Poland between 2008–2013. The paper sorts barriers according to threeareas of influence: financial investments, implementation and cooperation. The scope ofthe survey relates to innovation at the firm level and concerns the diffusion “new for thecompany” level. Innovation activity includes (1) expenditure on research and developmentand investments in fixed assets not used so far such as: a) buildings, premises and land;b) machinery and equipment, c) computer software; (2) implementation of new productsand technological processes and innovation cooperation. The survey comprises 1355 MHT& HT companies. The methodological part of the analysis includes a probit modelingthrough which one can specify the probability of occurrence of innovation activity interms of the innovation barrier. This analysis provides insight into the nature of innovationbarriers. The results of the analysis reveal that the most important barriers are: highinnovation cost, lack of capital and uncertain demand.
