Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to analyse the scale of consumption deficit in households in Poland by province in 2013. An analysis covered consumption deficit in households as regards nutrition and meeting needs in recreation, culture, and leisure. The regional diversity of the phenomenon in question is presented on the basis of computed synthetic measures of the scale of consumption deficit in households, in the two scopes analysed, determined with the use of the classical TOPSIS method. The information base was micro data from the surveys called Diagnoza Społeczna – Warunki i jakość życia Polaków w 2013 roku [Social Diagnosis – Poles’ Living Conditions and Quality of Life in 2013]. The carried out surveys show that households from the Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Silesian Provinces presented the highest consumption deficit as regards nutrition. Relatively the most seldom, for financial reasons, consumption deficit of food products was noted in households located in the Podlaskie, Opolski, and Great Poland Provinces. The highest deficit of consumption of goods and services as regards recreation, culture and leisure was specific to households located in the Łódzkie, Lower Silesian, and Pomorskie Provinces, while the lowest in the Silesian, Podlaskie, and Opolskie Provinces. Findings of the carried out surveys may be a source of information for institutions and organisations whose subject of interest is problems of consumption and social inequalities. They can also be used for the purposes of implementation, inter alia, of a relevant cohesion policy. The article is of the research nature.
