Summary/Abstract: Financial self-sufficiency of a commune can be thought of as the power of the local government to decide freely, within the legal framework, on the revenues, outlays and expenditures, and on the budget planning and execution – the very foundations of self-governance. Thus, the assurance of the reliable and adequate own sources of income is the sine qua non of a stable and sustainable growth of the communes. The aim of the article was to identify the conditions of financial self-sufficiency of Greater Poland communes using the biplot methods. The indicators of the self-sufficiency were chosen to be the level of own revenues per capita and their share in total revenues. The conducted analysis of interactions between communes, their self-sufficiency and several socio-economic factors showed that the greatest degree of self-sufficiency characterized the communes located around the city of Poznań, with high positive balance of migration and of registered residents, with high number of workers employed in large companies (with staff of at least 250), in industry, and in construction.
