Summary/Abstract: Peasants’ Battalions was an armed underground organization of the Polish agrarian movement, developed from the autumn of 1940 until the spring 1941. It was in its rank that, for the first time in the history of Poland, peasants could fight under their own banner and their own command. As there are few extant sources on the history of BCh and the peasants’ underground, the memoirs of BCh soldiers – published since 1960s – are very valuable in face of existing lacks and omissions. Sometimes written to meet strong expectations, they were interpreted over the years according to needs of the time. However, the reflections, commentaries and judgements the memoirs contain allows us to guess that not all of the themes and topics there presented were noticed.
