Summary/Abstract: Selection of archival materials and elimination of worthless register record is one of the priority tasks of every holder, producer and archival institutions themselves. The process of selection and elimination is a contribution to making more order in manipulating vast quantities of the register materials that are permanently being produced. The legal framework for regulating these matters has been defined by the B-H laws on archival activities in effect that are obligatory for all holders and producers of register materials. Selection of the archival materials is made by separating them from the total production of register materials, predominantly those of interest for history and other fields of science. Eliminated are, however, the register materials that are no more needed for current activities. Selection and elimination can be made only after the whole register materials are sorted out. This is a regular legal procedure to be done once a year. Elimination of the worthless registar materials is done according to categories and with archival period of time, which is regulated internally by every holder. It means that the register materials have to be valorized. Selection and elimination is made by a commission made up of professionals in the field. Representatives of the archives together with the holder's commission check the worthless register materials on the basis of the list made. Upon making a record on the check, a decision on destroying the worthless register materials is issued by a competent archives. When the whole process is completed the holder starts destroying unnecessary papers by burning, pressing or selling them. The documents originated from this process have to be permanently kept by the holders.
