Summary/Abstract: Standardization of each activity on a global scale is important and necessary process, which contributes to the unification of knowledge and skills, and allows their use in areas lagging behind in development. Acceptance of international standards or the adoption of its own (in the state) has become a condition for admittance of a country in the world family of countries. Unstabilized and war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina is late in this process. This also applies to the field of archival activities and the level of archival knowledge, because it did not solve some elementary questions of archival profession in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There is no structured system of standardization, and internal resources of archival activities (facilities, equipment, personnel) are not at a level so as to create all necessary conditions for the answer to all questions that the archival profession imposes. However, there are professional knowledge about international standards that may apply, or who can not. It is particularly important and sensitive application of standards of evaluation of archives. The solution is to build its own standards for the period in which the most damaged archives. However, it is necessary to significantly strengthen staffing basis, and any other necessary conditions for the normal functioning of archival activity. Archival profession and science in countries in transition, is not on the professional level that can significantly affect the fast and efficient change of state. That is something more active individuals and professional associations must insist on at the international community in order to ensure the application of international legal and social acts or archival professional standards. Therefore, archival service of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries in transition need to do everything so they could in their archival theory and practice found the standards and norms that apply to European and global level.
