Summary/Abstract: After the arrival of Prince Carol of Hohenzollern in the country on May 10, 1866, the main political objective pursued by Romanian politicians and diplomats was the preparation of the visit to Constantinople for the confirmation of the reign. The negotiations were difficult because of the humiliating conditions that Turkey was trying to impose, wanting to take revenge for the "accomplished fact" policy successfully used by the Romanians to bring the foreign prince to the throne. Taking advantage of the international situation - the change of the optics of some European states, the revolt of the population of Crete - the Romanian diplomacy tried, with patience and tenacity, to determine the cabinet led by Aali-Pasha to a more conciliatory attitude. The first firmman project was rejected by the Romanians, being considered offensive and intolerable, by the imposed conditions
