Summary/Abstract: The article presents linguistic ways of expressing joy in the present-day Russian and Polish languages. The analysis is based on examples taken from the Internet, first of all from blogs and Internet forums. The way of expressing joy depends on the type of the emotion in question. The first type is represented by ‘a joy as an inner feeling of satisfaction’, the second – ‘a joy as a spontaneous reaction’. The first type is expressed first of all through describing an inner emotional state of the sender [of the message] and has an explicit form such as: я радуюсь, мне радостно,меня это радует / cieszę się, cieszy mnie to, nie posiadam się z radości, etc. The second one –a spontaneous reaction – is expressed by implicit linguistic forms. The article also deals with the situations in which the sender tries to hide positive emotions, including joy.Download file
