Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to characterize selected organizational units supervised by the minister of agriculture. The minister affects the functioning of a total of 69 units, including 7 organizational units subordinated to him and 62 organizational units supervised by him. The study covered 11 bodies subordinate to the minister. The units have the legal basis such us acts and are financed from the state budget. The analyzed bodies have been set up to fulfill the function of control, supervision and payment in the sphere of agriculture and rural areas. In all tested units they employ 34.8 thousand employees, including 2.8 thousand people at central level (7.9%), 18.2 thousand (52.2%) in the provinces or regions, and 13.8 thousand (39.5%) at the level of districts. The organizational units fulfill their role in the compliance with the EU law, especially in the sphere of activities covered by the Common Agricultural Policy.
