Hungarian Language Use in the Articles and Readers’ Comments of the Daily Paper Magyar Szó Online

Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses the use of Hungarian in the language use of Hungarian speakers living in a bilingual environment in Vojvodina. The corpus of the analysis comprises articles and related comments in the daily paper, Magyar Szó, published online between 13th and 19th December 2016. The aim of the analysis is to point out those characteristics that occur due to the effect of language contact (e.g. differences in morphology, vocabulary, and effects of feminization and analytization), and to illustrate them with relevant examples from the corpus. On the one hand, the analysis can be considered as a continuation of the analyses done in 2011 and in 2015, on the other, it is a step further, since connections, agreements, and changes were followed up between the data gained in the earlier years and in 2016.
