Summary/Abstract: There are two goals in front of us: first to shed some light on the way Niklas Luhmann (1827-1998) theoretically approaches mass media and public, and second to compare his key observations with the paradigm of Jürgen Habermas. Why? Because we are convinced that, in this area, constructionist communication-systemic theory of Luhmann has been unreasonably neglected in comparison to inter subjective rationalistic-utopian paradigm of Habermas.
