Summary/Abstract: The field of Turkish interrogative statements has not been described sufficiently in Turkish grammar studies. Furthermore, they have not been transferred into the contexts of teaching Turkish as a foreign language in terms of their process of structuring and types. However, considering the relevant theoretical discussions, it is clear that there is a need to discuss the subtypes of them and to transfer them into the contexts of teaching Turkish as a foreign language in the light of the new descriptions. In modern books of teaching Turkish as a foreign language, interrogative statements has not been described in a detailed way, and apart from their semantic differences, their structures have not been touched upon. In this study, the answers have been sought to the questions to what extent interrogative statements exist, and what kinds of Turkish interrogatives are aimed to be taught in such teaching materials, and what kinds of interrogative statements are found in the texts. In the light of those observations, this study has put forward a new classification of Turkish interrogative statements within the framework Universal Grammar and Information Structure theories, and it has as well maintained that traditional discussions regarding interrogative statements would be insufficient in this context.
