An Analysis of Syntactic Errors of Turkish Students Learning French

Summary/Abstract: In this study, syntactic errors of 205 Turkish students learning French at basic and intermediate levels at Ankara University TÖMER Turkish and Foreign Languages Research and Application Center and the reasons for these errors are analyzed through error analysis technique. Data were obtained from the grammar and writing final exam papers of the students. According to the types of errors, the errors are classified into 8 fundamental groups, which were also classified into sub-groups among themselves. The most common error type was missing element. At the end of the study, Mann-White U test was used to examine whether there was a meaningful difference between error types and the quantity of errors made at Basic and advanced levels and it was noted that there were no significant difference between the two levels.
