Summary/Abstract: Archival activity (as an applied archivist) has been hit by the current transition process of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The efforts of archives and archivists to eliminate or mitigate numerous difficulties give limited results. The essence of the problem is that this activity does not have the appropriate place in the current cultural policy of B&H, due to the lack of its significance by the political structures. The problem is also the absence of a unified and consistent state policy in the culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as stated in the report of experts from the Council of Europe. Being aware of the inability of a radical shift in the foreseeable future, the archival profession must make a professional and scientifically funded state of the state (project), and then seek from the state and competent international organizations the consistent application of optimal solutions based on the international archivist standards and obligations to apply international legal (and social) regulations.
