Summary/Abstract: The competitiveness of European enterprises could improve if better productivity and efficiency is achieved. E-working can contribute to a better work performance, to the reduction of space needs, the reduction of absenteeism and recruitment costs, but more importantly it can benefit most employees and the society in general. E-workers competencies should be developed not only in the filed of ICT, but also for being able to work in an “E” environment. In order to accomplish this goal, E-workers competencies should be identified, information and educational material needs to be developed, specially to promote skills that assist potential E-workers to comply with this changing environment and expectations of the employers. Introducing E-work gives another vision on work and another vision on leadership. In fact, if the implementation of an E-work project is well prepared and additional efforts are put into the measurement of competencies of participants and the evaluation is sufficient, the risks of implementation can be narrowed down and minimized. The introduction of e-work in an organization is a course of change. It is important for both the manager and worker to be aware of the risks beforehand, offering additionally possible solutions. Herewith are the general conclusions that can be withdrawn from the survey. This article presents the findings of an examination survey held in Austria, Hungary, Lithuania and Portugal concerning the implementation of E-work and the importance of its use in SMEs. These surveys are one of the steps of the implementation of the SeeS project. The SeeS project refers to SME´s e-learning to e-work efficiently. According to the SeeS project application, each project partner had to survey 50 SMEs in their country. The questionnaire was organized in the following sections: SME General Information; competencies of E-Managers and Eworkers; training and finally comments and suggestions. From the analyses of each questionnaire of each country some conclusions has been draw. The E-worker competencies that stand out in most countries are ICT Knowledge, Quality Awareness, Cooperation and Reliability, Managing Change, Internet Communication and independency. The less voted were Initiative and Planning, Lifelong Learning and Independency. Concerning the E-managers competencies the most assessed were: Continuous Improvement and Quality Awareness, Managing Change, Communication and Problem Solving. The less voted were Lifelong Learning and Team Player. If the above mentioned skills are imbedded and are grouped in the overall competency structure where they will be developed, the SEES project survey indicates that, on average, all 4 countries agreed on e-Communication, Problem Solving, Life Long Learning, Team Building and Managing Change to be the most important e-manager competencies. As for e-worker competencies, the overall analyses suggests that Motivation, eCommunication, Quality improvement, Problem solving and Teambuilding are the most important competencies.
