Summary/Abstract: The aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and war as a consequence of that aggression were treated differently by different countries perceived as regional and world powers, whose policies and attitudes towards Bosnian independence and sovereignty pushed this country into years of harsh crisis. In essence, such policies indicate a close link between politics, the media and journalists. This link is the result of interests impacting the policies of the great powers, but also the conduct of the media. However, bright examples of professional reporting from the war-torn country warned the international public about the importance of professionalism and led gradually to a change in policies of the democratic world towards Bosnia and Herzegovina. This change did not “save” Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they did become a sign of real confrontation with the truth about the crimes committed in the country. These examples of professional journalism are of importance for the study of journalism, particularly since they place the value of fairness and truth at the centre of journalistic ethics.
