Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the syntactic characteristics of the infinitive in epistolary discourse of Petar II Petrovic Njegos. It analyzes the use of the infinitive in the function part of a complex predicate or voluntary clauses with different modal verbs; operational amendments of the nouns, adjectives, pronouns and averbs; in the operational and final clause (with equal and unequal entities), with phase verbs; as part of the Future I and Future II ; used in the function of the inserted modal expressions. The author points out its domination in the structure preceded by da, as well as present with the conjunction da, which is a feature of era of language marked by Vuk Karadžić. In the letters and prose some of the functions of the infinitive came to focus which weren’t recorded in the poetic work of Njegoš.
