Summary/Abstract: The basic intention of this article is to show major changes in organization and activity of Croatian archival service in transitional period. Changes were caused by the transformation of social and political system. What is the most important for the Archives is that public ownership became state ownership and than was turned into private one. So numerous of corporate and other private subjects that were before 1990 in public ownership now are, together with their archives, privat. Relations to private archives are not the only novelty. In order to solve this new situation and protect archives it was necessary to change Archival Law and other implemental regulations. That was prior condition for our further prosperous work.
