Summary/Abstract: Kristo Kotev Kristev, popular under the idiomatic signification “Dr. Kristev”, is well known as a critic and the person who inspired the historical Misal programme. Less is known of his social views, and even less of his practical activity as a man of alert political awareness. The paper sets in focus an aspect of Dr. Kristev’s social behavior, which has been little researched thus far. It represents the specific attitude of Dr. Kristev to some of his friends and writers close to the Misal literary journal, and searches through the mechanics of his influence aiming to turn these writers in the direction Dr. Kristev himself thought it “correct” for the development of the Bulgarian literature. The research is firmly based on documentary material: diaries, memoires and letters of people close to Dr. Kristev.
