Keywords: semanticism; color name; galben („yellow”)
Summary/Abstract: In Latin, there were various terms for naming the yellow color. Romanian has preserved the word galben („yellow”), derived from the Latin GALBĬNUS, a derivative from GALBUS. Also, galben („yellow”) is a polysemantic word, and the category of colour names, formed with suffixes from the names of substances, materials or plants (auriu, nisipiu, piersiciu), is very well represented.
