Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to stress the role of learner autonomy and teacher autonomy as well as to emphasize the interdependence of the two. The presentation of questionnaire results constitutes the major part of the article. It attempts to answer the question whether and to what extent students are willing to be autonomous and are ready to take responsibility for their own learning. As the discussion concerning autonomy has been present in the educational environment for some years now, surveys concerning both students’ and teachers’ attitudes towards this issue were conducted and their results were analyzed. This analysis aimed to determine to what extent teachers are aware of the need to develop their own autonomy and whether they are prepared to promote autonomy among their learners. Thus, the article attempts to answer the question whether and how teachers support learner autonomy and to what extent they use autonomy in their own educational activities.
