Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to show the role of diagnosis in ensuring the safety of undergraduate and postgraduate students on the example of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. The first part discusses the institutionalisation of tasks for ensuring security and safety at universities. Further on, the paper analyses research on the sense of safety at Kraków’s higher education institutions, and describes the research experience of the Jagiellonian University in this field, including the evolution of methodology, the results of surveys conducted at the Jagiellonian University from 2011 to 2021 (i.e. the Student Satisfaction Barometer and the “Safety and Equal Treatment” survey), and the procedure for their dissemination and use. The study closes with key findings and recommendations from the Jagiellonian University’s experience of research on personal safety at the university.
