Summary/Abstract: This article refers to the dynamics of the number of the Jewish population from Bessarabia for a period of approximately half a century and the way of its repartition in villages and towns. It is attempted to establish the number of the existent Jews at the moment of the annexation of Bessarabia by the Russian Empire based upon bibliographical data and original archival documents. The article tries to shed light on the problems referring to the priority territory for populating chosen by the Jews: rural or urban areas. According to the uncovered data the latter proved undoubtedly to be a priority.
