Summary/Abstract: Supporting families at the beginning of the twenty-first century has become a priority in countries and societies that think long-term, and notice the processes that have a negative impact on their development and functioning. One of them is to support dysfunctional families that fail in their parental care and that have problems with ensuring the proper development of children, in both biological and psychological terms. The countries which have for decades got involved in this area are a part of the community of Norden (Nordic Council). For some time a sizable part of their population are Poles. Barnevernet is one of those institutions that functions in Norway ‒ the Service for the Protection of Children’s Rights. The article presents its functioning, and its evaluation by the Poles living in Norway. The goal of the article is to answer questions about the origins of the differences in the approach to the ways of helping dysfunctional families, with respect to children in Poland and Norway. The author uses a comparative analysis to achieve this, and also uses a participating interview, as part of the material he uses is derived from a study conducted in Norway with its use.
