Summary/Abstract: The theory and practice of the art of war have always indicated that the art of defense is more demanding and sophisticated than offensive actions. One way to increase one’s chances in the confrontation with the aggressor is to escape into the grey area of the world of information, i.e. to create a situation in which access to accurate information is more difficult, where a huge role is played by diversion and disinformation. These objectives are achieved by, for instance, cutting the enemy off from information, control of the enemy activities in terms of information and influencing the enemy knowledge by one’s own behaviour. Information dimension of Islamic extremism is an extensive and complicated issue. It is therefore important to define at the outset what is meant by fundamentalists’ disinformation and propaganda. The article refers to a broad spectrum of political, cultural and social propaganda, as well as to the techniques of mass persuasion, characteristic of the post-industrial society. This area includes skilful handling by terrorist organisations of images, slogans and symbols, relating to the recipients’ prejudices and emotions. There have been identified the areas of effective communication, based on multiple planes, aiming at persuading recipients to "voluntarily" adopt the point of view of terrorist organisations. Communication planes depend on the target group of recipients who may be divided in accordance with the social status, wealth, religious believes, social attitudes, conservatism or political option.
