Summary/Abstract: This paper was written for an unusual conference, for a kind of oral Festschrift, for the 70th birthday of Jacques Le Goff organized by Miri Rubin at the Centre for History and Economics, King's College, Cambridge, April 6-8 1994 (see the program below). An international gathering of medievalists revisited the various subjects that have attracted Le Goff's interest over recent decades, and have been enriched by his innovative research. The topics covered and the sympathetic evaluations (which did not, however, shy away from scholarly polemics) prompted Le Goff to elucidate in vivid and eloquent responses how he relates to those problems today. This was the real attraction of the conference. Unfortunately the event was not tape-recorded, and remains preserved only in the memory of the participants.
