Summary/Abstract: The interest in learning German in Poland has declined sharply in recent decades. In my contribution I try to investigate the causes of this fact. The article starts with a brief overview of the methodology in teacher training and teaching German as a foreign language in Poland, which leads to formulating the thesis that not much has changed in this field during the last forty years. Teaching materials, and teaching methods and techniques do not meet the expectations of potential learners of German. The conclusion is that “teaching German must change”. How could this be done? This contribution attempts to answer this question and proposes some radical changes.
