Social and Cultural Aspects of Functioning of People Suffering from Hearing Disability

Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is presentation of people with hearing disability as a community who create an own culture and its characteristic. The etiology of forming the deaf community has been presented, as well as criteria of recognizing it as a language and cultural minority. A presentation of terms such as multiculturalism, interculturalism and references of assumptions of international education to social and cultural aspects of deaf people’s functioning in the environment of people with functional sense of hearing has been provided.
