Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to outline what happens during the translation process in technical texts. What kind of knowledge does the translator need? Is knowledge of language sufficient? Can the translator be regarded as a simple reader of the text, who tries to understand the source text? How can we look at technical texts and how does this perception affect the translation process? What theories offer the best explanations of what happens in the translation process?
