Summary/Abstract: The Communists, as personified by the leadership of the Polish United Workers’ Party (PUWP), upon taking over political power in the country after the Second World War, wanted to extend that power to include all areas of social life, including the sphere of spiritual life of society. Undertaking action aimed at complete subordination of schools and the educational processes implemented by them, the Communists intended to gain influence over the consciousness of citizens, that is, over their world outlook and morality. The condition for achieving that goal was the total secularization of schools carried out by denying access to the sphere of education to the Catholic Church, which treated the religious education of children and youth as the fundamental task of its apostolic mission. Therefore, control by the government and supervision by the PUWP of the secularization of schools became one of the most important forms of struggle of the Communists with the Catholic Church.
