Summary/Abstract: Autonomous combat systems are one of the most promising directions of weapon development. Weapons’ autonomization could bring the vision of robolution to the reality, which means the possibility of waging war with a wide range of robots. This is a crucial issue when it comes to the forecast of the military development. However, there is a danger of oversimplifying this development due to terminological loophole. The aim of the article is to determine the essence of autonomy of combat systems. It raises the questions about the conditions of a machine’s autonomy, about the discrimination between autonomy and related terms, about the steps of autonomy and its criterions in regard to combats systems. Finally, it answers the question whether autonomous combat systems are an element of the reality or a matter of future.
