Summary/Abstract: Until the Union from 1918, only a small number of towns from Hunedoara County succeeded in publishing press in Romanian, the city of Orăştie being one of them, as well as the communes of Petroşani and Vulcan. The other cities in the County, Deva, Haţeg and Hunedoara, and the communes of Brad, Ilia, Geoagiu, and Baia de Criş did not manage to print any newspaper or magazine in Romanian before the Union. While researching at the Hunedoara County Section of the National Archives in Deva, I discovered a series of never published or lesser-known documents that shed new light on the creation of the first Romanian newspapers from Deva (România Liberă), Hunedoara (Glasul Hunedoarei), Petroşani (Graiul Muncitorimei), and Orăştie (Bumbuşca). Important personalities from Hunedoara County took part in creating these newspapers in Romanian, personalities that also played a major part in achieving the Great Union from 1918, such as Dante Gherman, Petru Groza, Simion Câmpeanu, George Dănilă, Gheorghe Dubleş, Vasile C. Osvadă, Nicolae Macrea, Valeriu Bora.
