Summary/Abstract: The present article analyses the correlation between the feminine ideology and the nature topic, which is used mostly in Hortensia Papadat-Bengescu’s early prose. The natural setting is illustrated especially through a meadow, a spring, a mountain or a sea and one comes to perceive them as shelters for solitude and uncertainty. Nature becomes a support for the feminine soul that reveals its thoughts, experiences, aspirations, disappointments and dreams through letters. The present study underlines the fact that the confession of the feminine character from the psychological fragment The Sea finds deep echoes in the correspondence from the author’s own personal life and her subjective prose makes the balance turn more towards the form of a journal.
