Orientalisms in the works of Skender Kulenović

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes orientalisms in Skender Kulenovic’s work. Special emphasis is placed on the novel Ponornica, due to the fact that it contains extensively more orientalisms than does Kulenović’s poetry. On a number of examples, we will show that orientalisms also have symbolic function in the works we have analyzed. Furthermore, we have tried to show the frequency of orientalisms in the work of this writer. Based on the frequency of orientalisms in Kulenovic’s work, we can clearly conclude that orientalisms are important part of the loanword lexicon in the work of Skender Kulenovic.
